Weekend Reading: My fav’s from this week: 5/7/10

How to Scale Your Personal Brand, Earn More and Get a Life – Personal branding is what all professionals want, need, and desire. But it is so time consuming! Jonathan has an amazing article with links, advice, and always helpful tips. He says it best with: “Be very conscious about the way you scale and leverage your personal brand. It’s the difference between living well or living hell.”

Life Evaluation: Are You Flunking Life? – As Marelisa explains we all know and expect to be graded in things like: School, Corporate American jobs, and Life.  Wait….Life?  In this article there are a series of questions in which you grade yourself to see how, overall, in life you are doing.  And for those folks looking for “extra credit” – you won’t find any on this quiz!

How to Stand Firm on Your Fees – One of my favorite topics: How to prove your value to your clients so they don’t ask for discounts – especially when you are already offering competitive rates. This is something that can be really hard to grasp and understand but Karyn easily talks about it as a result of a reader inquiry via video response.

Get Your Synergy On – I really like this article. It talks about the author’s (Danielle Keister) relationship with her IT Guy. Wait – not that kind of relationship! It talks about her professional relationship and how well they mesh with one another. 😉 The importance of being able to work with another person closely and fluidly on projects is the key to success. Danielle really did a good job by stating, ” You can’t get that kind of dynamic working with someone impersonally or only occasionally on a transactional basis. It’s something that only comes by working in close, one-to-one partnership with someone over a period of time.”

7 Ways Your Homepage is Like A First Date – Ha! Again, I am never disappointed with the analogies Lisa uses to get her point across. The woman is amazing! Comparing your homepage to a first date is, well, exactly what it is like. Based almost 100% on first impressions, reviewing every single nuance, are we on the same level? This is a super funny look at how people view homepages. A must read!

This is Why They Write Instruction Manuals – A picture is worth a thousand words. I hate to say it, but I really look forward to the little posts on The Junk Drawer’s section of “Stupid things I do”.

Don’t blame the blog if you are the idiot – Do you have a blog site that you update on a regular basis? Do you have a group of followers? Are you confident that your site is complete? Wait, do you have anything your blog readers can purchase on your site? What about an e-book, a training class, consulting hours? Mack brings up this topic as he thinks about how to start selling something on his site that his readers can really benefit from.
