hello heather, im doing a masters in management with international business.
I am looking at doing my dissertation/research project on project management. Maybe something to do with communication or risk during a project.
From what you have said, is this something that would be good to research? If not is there anything you would suggest. It sounds really interesting and I am feeling very excited but i dont know where to start? Or where to get access from to analyse a project?
But the issue is, because my pathway is international business my dissertation needs to be aligned with that. Which means if i do this subject I need to look at project management globally, is this to ambitious?
Thanks

@Johann

Thank you for your wonderful comment and interaction.

Project management is not for everyone, and so many people seem to 'doubt' people that are not good project managers.

Everyone is good at something or some things, is it so much to believe that one person may have excellent skills in management and delegation? It is hard to manage ourselves, so managing, organizing and delegating a team or multi-faceted project is not as easy as it looks.

So don't feel bad if PM'ing it was not your thing - most PM's would probably break your tech toys :)

Hi Heather:

I stumbled across your website. Basically, I was thrust into a project management role and I have zero, nada- zilch experience in the project management world. I'm not even interested in managing a project.

My background is in research and development. I basically play with tech. toys and say whether or not they will work. I also develop new partnerships.

Now, I've never even taken a class on project management so every mistake that could be made, I made. And how!

I work for a little startup company and in the last 6 months we've doubled in size. We're growing so quickly. The offers are coming in!

Thankfully, my boss understands how important it is to have the right person for the job. And I can go back to playing with my tech toys, bringing them to the market and developing partnerships.

It would be so cool if there was a company that could lend experienced project managers to small businesses. Oy.

I read on your bio that you were in College Park. I spent countless months in the Archives researching. Far, far away from the land of (cough, cough, stumble into the giant red wall) project management.

Thanks for sharing the horror story.
